3 Rambling Questions....

jbuggfl Apr 28, 2009 04:59 PM

1.. When would most of you consider it to late to introduce males in with females??

2. I have a male yellowbelly who has clouded up and cleared up atleast 3 times now in the last month and still is yet to shed. I always increase humidity by daily misting and adding a extra large water dish during shedings and he just doesn't seem to want to shed... Should I be worried?

3. I'm getting aggrivated with my female yellowbelly she is around 400 grams and refuses to eat anything but live mice.. She is pretty up tempo for a ball python as far as aggression goes. She has a feed response lol but only for live mice she will take 3 or 4 once a week but will not take frozen mice or rats.. I have tryed everything I know I have took bedding from live mice and tossed frozen thawed rodents in it.. I have feed her a live mouse to begin the feeding response then offered her frozen mice and rodents with no luck. I cannot find rat pups anywhere alive here so those aren't a option... I'm trying to get some size on her so she will be ready to breed next season so makeing her go cold turkey and waiting months til she decides to take the frozen thawed isn't a option...Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!?!?!!!

1 after death

2 NO

3 feed live mice

.....breed anytime till it takes
...it will shed when it sheds...feed it
....if it eats , feed it....it will grow and breed...mice are good.....'

balls hardly ever eat dead rats in Africa...and never really were they pre-frozen and thawed in hot water....

I bred many balls on an all mice diet......12 egg laying balls...

My '07 female is afraid of pre-killed rats. She will literally move to the opposite end of the enclosure. I've tried placing mouse shavings with the rats. Nothing. She's feeding on pre-killed mice. How often should I feed her. She took her first pair of mice this week. Before that, it's only been one mouse a week.

I cannot say without seeing it
I have 08's that I could feed a large mouse to every other day...
(and have)......I feed like once every few days...twice a week if possible....but I feed just one item usually....rats,africans,mice,hamsters,gerbils...all different sizes....

......feed one GOOD meal once a week and it will be ok....if it eats 3 mice...try it ....if it doesn't blow up like a balloon...it's cool........too big...too much.....

..I feed LIVE

Don't use mouse bedding . . . .use THE mouse, I had tried scenting with bedding several times before with no luck. One time I put a mouse on a rat he got scared and pee'd all over the rats head . . . .guess what that 3 year old "she will only eat mice" female rescue did?? She slammed that rat!! Works well with huge white hoppers or all white x-smalls as well. Must start with live 3 to 5 before you try a live with out scenting . . . .then move to the f/k's 2 to 3 times THEN try the f/t rats.

Good luck & keep breeding I know breeders that don't stop introducing till late june!
