So - I have a female Mojave, and I plan to get a male Lesser or Butter (in hopes of producing a BEL).

A friend of mine is going to buy a male Lesser, and has offered him up as a stud to my female.
My question is: does anyone have experience doing this, and how did you handle payment for service?

Typically in dogs, payment for service is Pick of the Litter.
Is it fair to give him first pick of the clutch, then the rest belong to me? Of course we both want to get a BEL.
Does it have much to do with the value of the breeding pair? His male will cost more to purchase, but my female will be a year older, so their value at the time of breeding will be almost equal.

I'm sure we can come to a civil agreement on this, but I was just looking for opinions and advice.

buy your own male and let him buy his own females...

you'll stay friends alot longer that way....

...male lessers cost what? probably 3 this year..?....buy your own.....

Gotta agree with Jeff - just buy your own male.

Otherwise standard procedure is usually the one with the highest value animal (in this case your mojave) would get first pick and then you alternate.

I agree with every one else by the time your female is ready you should be able to get your own male. Stay friends...

I would not offer none of the hatchling as part of the deal.. You incubate them they are yours to keep.. I would offer him a cash payment once your female ovulates then if he wants one the hatchling after they hatch you can sell him one.. Just my opinion if not I'd say get your own male!!!

typically its a 50/50 split if the male is breedable... some people only take a 25% cut seeing you would be doing all the work....friends often take one visual.... the bad thing is you cannot gurantee clutch ratio and thats where it gets sticky. If you can afford the male you should buy it. I personally have tried loans... i have no problem with it personally but both sides look at it as a gamble and as business. With friends its easy to mix feelings into the deal but sometimes it works out well. I have a friend that offers me a loan every now and then but its usually in my favor or levels off another deal. Its hard to do a fair loan with one female in the mix.

Personally I would just split the eggs before they hatch...this way you both have same chances of getting a desired result. If there is an odd number of eggs, whoever has the female keeps it.

If you end up incubating all the eggs..I would separate the eggs into two separate containers and mark each egg while your friend is there (this way he can't accuse you of moving eggs from one container to another etc).

Or just have him incubate half the eggs, and you the other half.

Thanks for all the input - I've got a lot to think about.

What makes it even more difficult, is that he's not a breeder, and I'm very small. He just wants a white snake, and he knows that he can just go buy one, but he thought he'd help me out at the same time.

.......just ate delmonicos......not outside sorry.....fry pan then a flip of butter to finish, 4 and 4 minutes....then some mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) stirred into the pan and fried a couple minutes (no I don't them till they turn into not mushrooms)......

.......where do you live?......(might sneak there and light a fire in your yard grill....see what I find on the road on the way there......HA!

Why doesn't or why can't everyone share and stay friends ? I have a very good friend that has about six or eight 50% and 66% het Caramel Albino females. When I found this out I discussed my buying a male Caramel Albino and asked him if he would like to use it to breed to his females if I did. He said of course I would like to do that and I will split all of the offspring with you so I bought it. Hey, I dont know. Do you guys see a thing like that as one guy getting screwed and ruining a friendship? I dont and I know we will work that deal out to the advantage of the both of us.. I would like everyones input even if you think one or the other of us is dumb for making a deal like that. It certainly wont change the fact that we are friends, we will do the deal and we will stay friends but I do want some feedback since everyone seems to have such strong feelings on the subject.
