Too Early to Breed Boo?

PoohBear03031 Sep 12, 2003 08:51 PM

Boo is seven inches in lenght now, is she still too young to breed with milo? I had read something somewhere that they should be a certain weight before they could breed. Can anyone help me out?

Length, shmength.... lol

Sorry

She should be 45g (MINIMUM) 55g is better, and at LEAST one year old.

If you can answer "yes" to BOTH these questions without a doubt in your mind, then my answer is "yes" you can breed her, but you should probably just wait till next season...

Good luck!!! Talk to you soon!

....you dont have to be ATLEAST one year old. Ive seen 9 month geckos much bigger than 55g. IMO, if you wait (like kev said) untill shes 55g , than she should be fine...just keep in mind its not impossible to breed leos under a yeard old.

it's not impossible to breed a 30g gecko either, but you still shouldn't do it. waiting a year is definatly the best way to go, they are still growing at 9 months.

"it's not impossible to breed a 30g gecko either"

...Probably is. Most likely they will get egg bound and die, rather than giving birth. If you read closer, youd see i said "55g", not 30.

"they are still growing at 9 months."

...wow, theyre still growing at 12 months aswell....depends on how much you feed them.

you obviously misunderstood me. by saying they can breed at 30 grams, i meant it is unideal, in the same way that it is unideal to breed a female before she is even a year old. by a year old, most females have almost stopped growing, almost.

I think it is a good idea to wait for a year old but reptiles never stop growing.

cheshireycat Sep 13, 2003 10:40 PM

Yeah, I don't think any do, either.

But you should still wait until after the animal is having a growth spurt... they will need a lot of energy dedicated to that, and breeding during that time could compromise their health.

I know the example is used a lot, but it's like a 13-year-old girl. Sure, she may weigh only 90 lbs. and be capable of getting pregnant, but should she? And weight isn't all of it. A 13-year-old girl who's 135 lbs. shouldn't have any babies, either.

I had no immediate plans to breed her. My pets are like my kids, they get the best of everything. I will probaly wait until she is a couple of years old, and as recommended 55 grams in weight before I do anything. Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond.
