Mole kings are more common in the western piedmont than eastern kings. Dry, open areas with lots of farmland seem to be ideal for these guys. I usually find 3-5 live ones per year, along with another 3-5 DOR's...usually in May and September. They also tend to grow larger in the western Piedmont than in the Coastal Plain. Largest I have found was a hefty 40 inch male in 2003.

Today was the first of 2009 and was unique because the saddles were actually lighter than the ground color. Taken home for photographs and released where found...

Both the mole and the eastern are a real treat for me, I have always wanted to hunt the Carolinas. Thanks for the shots and best of luck!

If you ever decide to take a trip out that way, get in touch with me. I could give you ideas on where to go and when.

Thanks,
Michael
