nevermind May 01, 2009 06:46 PM

I was looking at the flexwatt heat tape, and the 3" runs at 10 watts per foot, and the 4" runs at 8 watts per foot. my question is how hot does the 4" get max temp. compared to the 3" max temp. thanks in advance.

There is more to the answer than a simple number, the watts is simple the amount of energy used to do the work. Work being the heat produced by the heat tape. Will these be used in a vacuum? As in any other application the conditions will change the results. When properly controlled with a thermostat both will achieve temps capable of giving proper basking temps.

What you need to ask yourself is do you need a larger basking area and shorter tape run as those are the only particulars that matter...

Oh there are way better products for that than calorque flexwatt.

EZ Heat is an electric based product that knocks its socks off. And if you are already using radiators, PEX products can heat the floor nicely. However with PEX its not really an afterthought.

Let me know if you need additional info...
