Need Breeding Advice #3

JMo May 02, 2009 12:45 PM

Hi guys - I'm back needing some more advice. My female shows absolutely no interest in the male - she goes under the paper in the tub and ignores him while he scurries about. Here's a brief scenario of the table:
3/2 - both taken out of brumation
mid march - male sheds
3/26 - female sheds
They have been put together numerous times times since 3/26 but as I said the female is not at all interested.
The male stopped eating about 2weeks ago - the female did not eat last week - maybe they are getting ready to shed again?
Should I continue putting them together? At what point do I stop and try again next year? All advice will be most welcomed.

Thanks,
Jim

First and foremost, I am not an expert, but her eare my thougts

1) You are 100% sure you have opposite sex snakes? Never trust anyone about that. If you can, always verify it yourself, everyone makes mistakes.

2) Once you have verified the sexes, if ou only plan to breed the male to the one female, you can just cohab them for a bit and hope for the best.

3) Did you monitor them constantly? Is there a chance they completed the deed while you were occupied with something else?

4) If you have another male or female, try the two with a differnt snake to see if they have a different reaction.

Have you seen any obvious swelling in her? If so, I would set up a nest box just in case.

Good luck

Jim, the time from end of brumation to shedding is really close. It is common for females to go through 2 sometimes 3 sheds before hooking up with the male. Hope this helps a little.
