keeping your hoggs at room temp only??

legacyline May 03, 2009 12:01 AM

my reptile room is kept at a good 84-86 degrees in the day and drops to about 83 at night is this good enough for hoggs or do i need to add some flexwatt for more heat? i know people that keep them at about this temp (room only) and say they do good and some say they need extra heat whats your thoughts thanks in advance

That will work, as long as you have that day to night fluctuation and aren't keeping them at a constant temp. I nevertheless prefer to keep a relatively cool room, and rely on thermostatically controlled heat tapes to provide a temperature gradient in the cage-this just gives the animal more choices at all times, and thus may reflect the natural condition a bit more accurately.

Depends on which hoggie you are talking about. I would not keep a tricolor that warm, but a western would do fine.
