Quick question.

DillanSimpson May 03, 2009 09:51 PM

I know its the king snake forum but I wanted to ask it here cause it seems to get faster replys.

My question is I am breeding for the frist time this year and its pueblans and when she lays do you think the egg box I got for her is big anof and its a 6 qt tub for the egg box or is the to smalll?

And right now I got the egg box pretty much at 81 but some time at night it can get 80 to 79 so will that 1 to 2 degree temp drop be bad?

Yall have a good one!

I think Rainer (Bluerosy) already answered this for you in your earlier post:

Read it. Learn it. Use it. Get a bigger nest box. Think CRATE.

My MBK is in a styrofoam ice chest getting ready to drop. I wish I had something bigger for her...

If your nest box is DARK and FULL then your set up should work fine.

You can always go above and beyond if you want to. More options are always better when it comes to reptiles.

I not talking about the lay box I am talking about the egg box would a clutch of pueblan eggs be to much for a 6 qt tub?

zach_whitman May 04, 2009 10:54 PM

Sorry i misunderstood. That will work fine.

With egg containers its pretty much the bigger the better. More incubation medium = more thermal mass = temps and humidity don't fluctuate as rapidly. all good things... If you only have a few snakes and you have the room for a bigger container, why not go for it?

Ok thanks!

I have never had anyone ask that question. I use shoebox size tubs for all colubrid eggs. Most people do. If it is not broken don't try and fix it. In other words.. if this is your first time out , why not do what works for everyone else? Colubrid eggs are simple. Just stick the shoebox in a warm dark place like a closet. That is what i do. No incubator needed, no giant containers ect.

IMy guess would be that a large container might be harder to keep the right humidity and is more prone to drying out. But overall colubrid eggs (pueblin Milksnake )are tough.
