I need advice!

papageorgi091 May 03, 2009 10:37 PM

I have a two year old male temper albino leopard gecko, that has an attitude problem. He got along with a seven year old normal phase female and a yearling sickly (rescued) blizzard female, but he will not get along with any other leopard geckos, not even plump breeding females, he always tries (sometimes succeeds) to bite them. What should I do? Is there a way to correct this? or is there a certain type of female I need to look for? I really just want a companion for him! THANK YOU!

my male gecko did the same thing it is pretty normal for a male to do this.Mine does this when trying to breed with my females.I keep one male with 7 females in a double layered 55 gallon tank and my male has calmed down alot. You might have to house your male by himself in a tank except when breeding.I keep an extra 10 and 20 gallon tank ready at all times incase i have to seperate my gecko's for one reason or another.Good luck, john

This is a VERY common behavior for male leopard.
I understand that it is hard to watch but usually the male and female will smell each other out, the male will do his tail shake thing (reminds me of a rattle snake), the male will bite at the female, then they will mate (if the female is ready). Is the male nipping at the female's neck or body area?

Well he does the smelling and the tail shaking thing, but then he doesn't bite them around the neck, he bites them on the body, like on Saturday he bit one of my female's legs......?
