Sexing 7ft Albino Burm Help..

Jbuggfl May 03, 2009 10:37 PM

Just picked up a tame 7ft albino burm.. Is it possible to pop this snake like a ball python or is it best to probe????? I have a probe kit somewhere and have probed many snakes before but smaller snakes my question is approximately how far will the probe go in if its male or female?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

That helps but im still uncertain.. He is a little under weight and the spurs are somewhat medium not large like my previous male burms but not small enough to be a definite female..

HH is quite correct with his evaluation of spur sexing pythons. This could be a younger snake, and the issue comes when trying to spur sex pythons a year old or less. Many times the spur structure of these younger male pythons have not developed completely, and this can sometimes make distinguishing male spurs from female spurs problematic. Pythons in this select age group are probably best sexed by probing. A male the size of yours will probe well over 2 inches, a female an inch at most. Trying to pop a burmese more than a few months old will most likely cause physical damage to the snake.
