Repeat Cycle Timers-opinions wanted.....

boidsonly May 04, 2009 11:02 AM

Hello All,
I am going to upgrade my misting systems' timers but before I invest any money, I thought I would pick the experts' brains.
I have looked at Encore, MistKing, ect. Repeat Cycle Timers but wanted your opinions before I made any choices. Are there other brands out there that are better, have more functionality and are brain dead to use?
I would appreciate any and all responses based on your experiences or recommendations.
Thank you much in advance...

Best regards,
Jeff Murray

Hi Jeff,

Can't provide any input as to which system works better than another as I don't use any type of misting system.

My question to you is why have one? I have found with proper caging, misting is not required at all. I can't imagine what misting would do to my setups other than over wet them. Again, I have worked towards having my cages self sustaining with only cleaning and feeding required. I do use damp moss boxes most of the time (except breeding season when it seems to be more trouble than it's worth)

hey dave when it comes to the moss hides do they ever dry out do you have to mist them?

i use a wet towel in mine and i find that they dry out of have to be replaced because when left too long they get really stinky. i think thats because of mold although no mold is visable.

how often do you change out the dirt and the moss?

LOL, I have one of those watering cans with all the holes to add more water. Honestly though, typically only during gestation season when they are not passing much waste. The rest of the year they mess in the box often enough to 1) keep it damp - the micro-ecosystem does seem to break down some liquid urates 2) force a change out every two weeks to a month.

I remove any solid waste I find. And if it starts smelling or molding, I change it out. Typical smell would be amonia. Periodically I change them all, like when several are ripe.

And, by far, my favorite time to change the moss is ....
