sick snake???????

mrwhitie Sep 12, 2003 10:32 PM

I bought a few ball pythons. I've had them now for about eight months. I went on vaca an had a friend watch my snakes. 4 days after I came back I fed the snakes. The next day my largest snake was dead. I opened her mouth and saw phlem. Three days later I saw one of the boy snakes with his mouth open and with phlem in it. I put him in a seperate cage immediately. It has been a week today. I was feeding the snakes again when I opened his mouth before I fed him there was a substance caked in the roof of his mouth that looked like a chunk of lard. I removed it with two Q-tips but I don't know if I should bring the snake to the vet or just wait for him to get better. Because I don't know what this substance is. could it just be a cold??????

If one snake has already died, and the other one has the same symtoms, don't you think it should see a vet?
I mean really, do you just want to wait and lose that one too?
It could spread to any or all of your snakes.
I am not trying to be rude, but if you truly care for your pets,
you should seek out a reptile vet ASAP.
Just my opinion.

Get the snakes to a qualified reptile vet ASAP! It sounds like a very serious respiratory infection. It's a matter of life and death for them, R.I.'s can be very deadly. I myself have had a ball die even after the 2 weeks of injections. Best of luck.
