Rules for breeding?

Novice_Charmer May 05, 2009 03:44 PM

I have been keeping Burms for about 12 or 13 years, and have just recently been tossing around the idea of breeding.I think, for the time being, I just want to try and have just one clutch and see how it goes. What I was wondering is, let's say for example that I put a female albino Burm with a male granite albino Burm and they were to actually mate, would I necessarily end up with any albinos? How about patterns? Would I come up with some granites and some normal pattern or could one (or some) of the offspring be a mix?I haven't completely committed to this, just wanted to get some opinions from the pros.Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be appreciated!

male albino granite X female albino would produce all albino's het granite

(someone correct me if I'm wrong)...

Then if you took a female offspring and bred it back to your male albino granite you would get half of the clutch albino granite and half albino...

again, someone correct me if I'm wrong..

Knotty's reply sounds right. You would get albinos het granite. Although nature throws in some suprises now and again. This is my first clutch of burms. Albino granite male to normale female. The babies are het granite and albino. These hatched today. I have 12 more that hatched on the 3rd. Good luck on your burm project. I have to say mine have been fun to work with! Rich

Yeah sometimes you do get a surprise alot of the albino burms out there are het for other morphs and unless you know the breeder its hard to tell.

My first clutch from a albino granite male, Albino female came out half albino het granite and half albino granite. I had no idea the female was actually het for granite. Nice little surprise.
