Red Pseustes Shed:

Oxyrhopus May 05, 2009 10:18 PM

He is quite colorful, moreso when moving about and he puffs and the red bands can be viewed better. He measured at 6 feet but will be 9 feet by next year.

Wow Dan that thing is amazing!

Does he have a subdued striping on his upper half?

Very attractive snake.

Oxyrhopus May 07, 2009 01:54 AM

Striping or banding? He has faint thin red bands all the way up to his head. When he moves about and thickens his sides, he is way more colorful.

Awesome Dan! Good luck with him.

He was imported just last week and is actually a bit light-weight and yawned a few times so have him cooking under a heat lamp to knock out any resp he may have gotten during import. He ignored haired rat crawler/pups for a day or two and then today I rapped one against him off tongs until he got upset and shorly thereafter struck and held onto one but did not coil it as the item was obviously too small. I slowly backed off and he gobbled it down while it was still alive. I figure this fellow will be eating me out of house and home soon and take a half dozen or more crawler rat pups a week.

That's good to read, Dan.
I wish you the best of luck with him. He's a stunning animal.

That is great news Dan!

Are you keeping that spectacular snake in that small of an aquarium? I would think he would like a big cage... like one of mine...

Yea, he is in an isolation tank for a month but have a large 30 gallon high tank waiting for him.

If you send me a photo of your cage to show him, and if it meet his standards, I am sure he will give up his next shed for decoration for it.
