Lesser vs. Butter

SKYfire_1 May 06, 2009 07:04 PM

Well, I have a female mojave. I knew when I got her one of the projects was to produce me a white animal. I know there are several ways to get what I have been looking for. Mojave x Mojave = good. Lesser x Mojave = Better. Lesser x Lesser = the best, at least from what I have heard. I assume Butter x Mojave is probably about the same as a Lesser x Mojave.

Right now I am thinking hey, these lessers are great, you can do a bunch of stuff with them. I am not sure about the butters, they are probably about the same as far as genetics go.

Okay, enough rambling. The question I pose is simple...
One of the end results are a BEL. This was one of the intentions of the Mojave. Now I am thinking how do I want to go about it?
Get a Male lesser to breed her or a male Butter.

Butters are a bit harder to come by, they cost a little more. You don't see as many butters as you do lessers.

So the question is:
Save for a
Lesser
or
Butter?

In my opinion, and I know not everyone agrees, butters and lessers are the same thing. I'd just get the nicest butter or lesser you can find. The quality of the male is going to be much more important than if it's called a lesser or a butter.

I'd do Lesser All Day Long.

Ive got a male and female butter on order from a well known breeder. Hes calls them butters cause thats what the breeder he got his from called them... so I guess I will call mine butters too.. I will watch these grow and compare them to the lessers my self... Im not real worried about it, although I find the different veiws somewhat conflicting. Maybe we could get the "king" to weigh in a "creators" point of veiw.

he already has on this topic before when all the african "lessers" were being imported. As he stated unless it came from him or one of his animals it couldn't be called a lesser because it wouldn't have the potential to produce platty's. this statement was made when it wasn't known whether or not a lesser created from a platty could produce a platty on it's own or not. We now know that they can't and the dilute or platty gene is needed as well so the original arguement should be null and void. I guess this is going to be a debated topic forever since people have their opinions without knowing the history behind the morph.

Not sure if I understand what he/she said,(Josh & Krysty Hutto ) or if he/she said it about something I said, or about African Imported Lessers. But if it's something that I seem not to know about the morph's, he/she is absolutely right. I really don't know much about morphs. I only do this for fun on free time, and I can never get this morph stuff straight anyways. So I guess he/she recomends Lessers.
