Looking for a good book...

jpk4 May 06, 2009 09:46 PM

So I'm undecided if I'm going to buy a snake in the fall, really it's either that or a dog, but in the mean time I'm thinking a little research is in order.

I've built one snake enclosure...for the ex...and it's left barely unfinished, but got me very interested in building a naturalistic terrarium for possibly a rainbow boa or a maybe a green tree python. I know there are some good books out there and I've seen them mentioned in this forum...just can't remember the names.

So if you guys have any good books that come to mind, please share. If I do get a snake I want to get the environment right before I pick one up.

Thanks

Absolutely. I recommend this book: http://www.goldengatebookstore.com/rel/v2_viewupc.php?storenr=333&upc=0793828910&affnr=-2610

I think I picked it up at Petsmart or one of our local pet stores for pretty cheap. It's an excellent guide. I've also recently ordered another book on them, but I don't have the title with me currently, I'll find it later and post it.

the reptiles magazine on shelves now has a great article about arboreal snake vivariums. i believe it has an amazon boa on the cover, with a small pic of an albino water monitor.

I'm not sure what you want the book for...how to build enclosures or how to keep a particular animal...or even what animal to keep...

They are all important questions that really tie into one another.

I found simply searching the classified will yield some inspiration, for animals. But by far the best is reading books at the library finding pictures of animals the que your interest and doing some "google" work.

Its amazing what some of the old books have for pictures both good and the bad...but really reading is your best option.

Fair warning books with copyright dates in the 70's may have outdated info....LOL

YES! That is the title I was looking for. Thank you very much, and thanks to everyone for their suggestions too, I'll be sure to look into them when I decide on what I'm going to do.
