How long.....

does it take for these guys to settle down and stop acting like a tweeker? I was able to get my carpet python to stop biting me with a couple of months of handeling, but my milk is all over the place. Is it something that goes away with age or handeling? Thanks.

I think with most milks it's as much age as how much you handle them. They usually calm down a lot by the time their a year old.

I have a 3 year old apricot pueblan, had from a hatchling, and have a 2 month old albino nelsons. The pueblan was only a bit skittish for the few months of her life, never aggressive whatsoever though. She calmed down pretty quickly. The nelsons has been as calm as can be almost straight from the egg lol. I was told the nelsons are very calm snakes by nature...so far thats proven to be very true. I did limit the handling of my snakes when they were hatchlings, and have them in the living room with lots of substrate to burrow in, but also lots of activity going on. I noticed the pueblan actually started coming out as it got older and watched the action in the room...even watched the tv. Now she hangs out anytime anythings happening in the room just to watch. The nelsons already starting the same behavior. I think maybe the activity desensitizes them abit, and gets them more used to people and handling. They have tons of burrowing material and hide spots when they need it, but they can also come out and watch life going on around them when they choose. I'm starting to think maybe keeping a snake isolated except when handling might keep them more skittish? The previous 2 snakes I had in a separate snake room definately seemed more skittish when I came in.....even though they were handled regularly.
