Egg bound

dave15run May 07, 2009 07:37 AM

One of my snakes laid 12 healthy eggs but she has been in the nest box for three days without passing the egg. The egg mass is still near the middle of her body. I know about inserting a needle to draw out fluid in the egg, but my question is: where do you get the needle? Can a pharmacy sell them? Thanks for the help I know will come.

I think its too early/soon to be considering aspirating the egg. Try a warm water bath and then massage the egg down and out. Just don't be too forceful. I would try this a few times before reaching for the needle.
Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for the help. She starts to shake when I touch her. That may mean something to you. I have not tried to pick her up but I will try the bath when I get home.

do not push eggs down....

one guy (old timer) actually will tell you to just push them up a little bit...

I prefer to tell you to not push them at all..

if the oviduct is twisted,buckled ...you will rip it ...it is thin...see one sometime (yes snake must be dead)...

....let her be
make her warm, warmer....85
make sure she has a good nest box....enough moss
make sure it's not too wet or too dry
let her drink....
let her be...
let her be...

.........let us know in 2 days....

I'd try feeding her. I have found by giving them a half-sized food item, it seems to provide the energy to get the rest of the eggs out.

I've done quite a few aspirations, and don't recommend it unless the egg(s) are near the vent.
