Another pile o babies and a BIG SHOCK!

skyslinger May 07, 2009 04:58 PM

Well I just finished cleaning up another pile of babies. Kist, who is one of our "Bubble Line" females from 2005 gave us a litter of 12 babies, no slugs or stills. She did give me a little surprise though. She gave me a litter of 6 hypos and 6 normals and some of each may be jungles. You see, she has a sister, who I wrote down that she was with a hypo jungle and she is due Monday. This litter I just had was due on Sunday and I thought were all going to be het for Sharp strain albino. I went and looked at my record books and found a little issue. . .on the outside cover of 5 subject notebooks I list the pairing and then inside record the details in each section under the animals it relates to. On the outside of one it says Kist and the Sharp albino but on the other it says Kist and the Hypo Jungle. When I look inside it has them listed as I thought they were paired. I am thinking somehow I reversed the pairing but don't know how. She has never been with a hypo prior to this season and had a litter of F2's last year. I was planning on waiting until the other litter drops to determine that I am an idiot as I feel it is highly likely that this is the case. Each of these two females only had one mate and they are sisters and look very similar so I am sure the other litter will come out all normal appearing and will be het for Sharp albinos. The only problem with that is that I just looked over breeding pictures from January of both pairings and this female WAS with the Sharp albino. I am at a lost now. Time will tell. Here are some shots of the litter from today.

Feel free to say you think I am just an idiot and nothing strange is going on. LOL

LOL, that's gonna put a kink in your marketing plans for the babies. At least the visuals are a given. The normal looking ones, IMO, should be sold as normals with a possibility of being het....

locally more than likely. The Hypos as just that if I don't keep them. I am still scratching my head on this one. I keep very detailed records and take lots of pics. I also had all my hypo males paired with other females and pics and records of that so it is strange. I looked back at last years records but need to look a little farther back and at a lot of pics. If I believe they are het Sharp then they will be breeder stock for my Paradigm and Sharp projects. At least the Hypos!

Are you absolutely sure it was Kist in that photo? You did mention the two girls look very similar. That’s the only thing I can think of since there wouldn’t be hypos if the sharp was the father. Or perhaps you switched the males early on and forgot?

Either way when the other female drops you should get an answer, now if she throws hypo jungles too you are really going to be in trouble. Telekinetic mating?
Hee!

That is a great looking litter, really great color showing already and mom did good with no stills or slugs! Congrats Ty!
