Need Info On Mite and Tick Deterants...

bloodsandballs Sep 13, 2003 01:15 AM

I noticed a small number of ticks and mites of 2 of my newly acquired girls and was wondering what the best product is to control BOTH ticks and Mites...i have heard Black Knight...i also did some searching and found a company called Natural Chemistry and they have 2 products called Healthy habitat and Reptile relief...just wondering if these work and what is probably the best. Thanx for all replies...never had to deal with this problem before

That’s great advise Jeff, and very helpful.
If everyone had adhered to your wisdom, you wouldn’t have your beautiful pastels.

Cool. Not.

If that is what you interpreted, then maybe I should be a little clearer. The question was how to treat mites and ticks at the same time, not should I buy wild or captive. In my response to you, I was implying, if no one ever brought in wild snakes you would not have your beautiful pastels, a trait which came from an import.
That’s it, it’s that simple, I'm not stating political or religious views or anything else. There is no hidden meaning or agendas to my response. what I say is what I mean.

And ALL I IMPLIED was that if you bought a CB baby for a few dollars more (of which there are TONS available) this problem would not even occur. But for some reason you had to inform me that if there were never wild caught animals, I would never have my Pastel? Ok then......that's good stuff to know because I wasn't aware.

Tongue firmly in cheek....

Well I'm glad I could help.
Question: how do you know his are normals??? I didn't read that in his post.(I do agree with you on the aspect of importing normals, and I don't own any)
If I put my tongue in my cheek will I be clairvoyant too???

why not answer the guys question with good info instead of bickering?

typical of this forum....and a reason i don't come here very often......holier than thou opinions with little in the way of intelligence behind them.

to answer the question........I have had good luck treating snakes that come into the shop with reptile relief. Seems to do the trick without worrying about killing them in the process.

CBB occasionally get ticks and mites as well. You assume too much.

I have been lucky enough to not run into any problems with mites or ticks, this is because I preventively treat all incoming animals (including some WC Pastels) with Black Knight. I posted a link to a good page on killing mites with Black Knight. You should check it out.

I use Provent-o-mite from Pro-Products. Have for several years with great success. Just make sure you don't have a pet arachnid in the same room! The product works great for a couple of weeks. I have had no adverse reaction from the product with many species of snakes and monitors. I have not tried the others.
