Shipping a 5yr Hermanns, Info Needed

terrygar May 08, 2009 10:53 AM

Hello I need to ship my Tortoise from Fl to Reno and I don't know where to go.
I used DHL last time, but they no longer ship, so I tried calling FedEx and UPS but the answers were vague or not at all.
I have the correct container with the foam liner and all the packaging, I just need to know where to go.

Also why don't the airlines let us bring them on board like yappy dogs I see all the time???

Help, Terry

My friend lives in Jacksonville, FL and ships via FEDEX all the time. I personally use Delta. It may be slightly more expensive, but the animal will be there in a few hours, not two days. It is much safer and much more humane. You can do it without being a "known shipper" if you have the proper form. Email me privately for more info if interested.

It takes some time to become a "verifyed shipper" with FedX and UPS.You will have to go Delta unless you want to ship all the time it not worth the hassell.Delta is the best and most humane.Shipping to Reno could be very riskey.Even though they say the trucks have air condishioning I have taken a temp.reading of the floor of one of their trucks that delivered to me and it was 150F !The package with the tortoises was over 100F inside. If they get to cold they get sick and you can fix them.If they get to hot (about105F) they die and there is no fix for that.Sometimes the shipping is more than the value of the animal and one must ask ones self "why am I doing this for a animal that is for sale in every city where legal. Good luck Vic

Hello, I want to ship my tortoise from Ft Myers to Reno during Hurricane season July to late Oct. I cannot stand another season of weather channel fear about each storm coming our way and the
prep of leaving with the tortoise in the car for hours of heat and car noise.
I have a cabin in Reno/Tahoe that is a great summer retreat.

I'll call Delta, but you don't have to be certified as a shipper to send Ups once or twice a year, do you?????

You don't want to chance just wrapping it in a towel & stashing it in a carry-on bag?
