Boa almost belly up (pics)

AbsoluteApril May 08, 2009 11:49 AM

Doing my final check in the snake room last night and saw Cinnamon with her rear half twisted and lying on her side. She’s leaned slightly now and then but nothing this dramatic. She just moved up one feeder size to a large rat (fed 5/5) perhaps the larger than normal meal made her uncomfortable?

Any opinions?

This is a bad shot, but I wanted to show that she was upright on the front half, awake and alert.

By this morning she was just curled up like normal.

Here’s another boa that was twisting last night, also another bad shot but I don’t want to bother her. Zahara has just over 6 more weeks to go, I’m hoping the mass in there will be viable babies (fingers crossed!).

On a side note, so far 3 different co-workers have told me about the reptile show next weekend at the Cow Palace, I guess I really made an impression after I asked them for help with the HR669 letters, now they all have reptiles on the brain! Ha! (evil laugh)

TGIF,

The worst one is not the case here as they are still moving.

Next is they sometimes press their food bulge to the heat to aid in digestion.

And by far my favorite is the "gravid girl getting comfy, or at least trying to.

Just took this pic last night, one of my gravid BRB's...

>>The worst one is not the case here as they are still moving.

Exactly and that was my worst fear when I first saw her. Glad it wasn't the case.

>>Next is they sometimes press their food bulge to the heat to aid in digestion.

I think this is it, that was the warm end. She's deff. not gravid, never been with a male.

Now THAT's what I call belly up! Great pic!

wow 30 babies! I didn't realize BRBs had such large litters. I think seeing them upside down like all the time would drive me batty. Good luck with those girls!

Nice in cage pics April she is leaning way over , I love that tail.

Thank you Lar!
The tail was the reason I got Cinnamon, I love that little hourglass shape in there.
You know I'll post an update on Zah one way or the other when she drops.
Have a great day

It's the canned corn April especially when they have a whole case, it will mwke them roll everytime hehe.

I love the quirky things they do...fun stuff, and good job getting more people interested in our hobby.

LOL Yeah, I really pack them in there, I told her she had to eat all 8 cans or no rat.

those photos. Now we know what your feeding your boas to make them so beautiful. You should have thrown the boxes away. I am on my way to the grocery store to stock up right now. Good job with the co-worker brainwashing!

but you didn't see what she gets for dessert, that's the real secret. I gotta keep some things to myself! heh

I am slowly converting all my co-workers into reptiles lovers, they know my snake is gravid and I get the strangest questions "do they drink milk when born? does momma snake carry them around? how do they 'do it'? The male has TWO!?!"
Good times!

Ya...I have to educate my wife on "how they do it"...

She has sent off sooooooo many false alarms to me. One evening I was turkey hunting when the "I think they are mating" text message came from her.....

All I can say is, turkeyzilla could have walked past my blind, and even got in the blind with me, shook my hand, and I would not have known he was there, trying to look at the tiny pics she was trying to send or the so called mating.

AbsoluteApril May 11, 2009 10:13 AM

That is too funny and I know exactly what you mean. I asked my guy to check on my pair that was together and I got the excited phone call 'he's mating with her!' Having him try to describe it without him really knowing much about the process was very interesting to say the least. (they were just courting but he swore they were 'doing it'!)

At least they try!
Have a great day,
