Aggression or Hunger

mwrinkle May 08, 2009 02:47 PM

Went to feed him the other day putting in his dish with meal worms and he leapt and snapped at me causing me to drop the dish. I wonder if he was so hungry to get food he leapt at it or displaying aggression. He does occasionally mouth gape at me when I pick him up!

YOUR BIGGER THAN HE IS, hahhahahahaa , LOL

Seriously sometimes we move quickly and I think it makes them fearful, especially if they have not been with us for a long time. I would say it was that he was just hungry and being grabby, but you also said he at times mouth gapes at you , which tells me he's still a little fearful.

Try to approach him low and in front of his face or off to his side but low, so he sees you coming and can get a good bite on you, NO I'm just TEASING,... You do not want to come down from the top OVER him like a preditor (large bird or whatever)would do to eat him.

The tame ones are even worse. I do most of my cage mainenance at night under a red lightbulb because during the day if I leave their tank open for even half a minute I have three little jumping beans climbing all over my face wanting to come out and play. Which tends to sort of distract me from doing anything else.
Your guy sounds like he's associating you with feeding time, but hasn't quite figured out the full cause and effect yet. Perhaps he thinks he'll get a bigger share if he chases you away from the dish sooner. Admit it; you've been trying to steal bugs from him, haven't you?

Ok, I admit it, I sneak some behind his back and he has caught on!
