Gentilis hatchling

dystopian May 08, 2009 11:43 PM

What started as a clutch of five eggs, ended up as two hatchlings. One egg in the middle of the mass went bad early on, and the two adjacent eggs went down shortly thereafter.

This little one emerged this morning from what I had taken to be the least viable of the two eggs that remained.

The second finally emerged just over an hour ago, but I haven't bothered to get a picture of him/her yet. Looks almost identical to it's sibling in both coloration and banding.

Cute little thing, though it struck at me twice before I'd even gotten it out of the egg container.

Not sure why I can't post images on here anymore.

Here's a link to the image.

Well, I'd thought to do that very thing, but these were clumped together in such an odd way that I felt it best to leave them be.

Hindsight, eh?

Oh well, at least I didn't lose the lot of them.

Finally resolved the issue that plagued my recent attempts at posting images.

It's a small matter in the grand scheme I know, but I feel better.

Trevor,

Very nice! Take some more pics of them when they settle in. I'm glad 2 of them made it!

This girl should drop a clutch any day now.

Thanks Dell!

That's a stunning female you've got there. Is she WC or CB?

That's why I take the time to seperate all egg masses when setting them up for incubation. It does no harm if you're patient and careful, and can save you grief later. I know many will tell you that a bad egg in a clutch won't usually harm the others-but note that word "usually"

Thanks guys for the kind words.

I'm going to wait until they've shed and then post a few more pics of each of them.

If all goes well, I should have a handful of Scarlets by then too...
