How do you get Mealworms out of the Substrate????

batdad Sep 13, 2003 02:30 AM

I am raising mealworms in straight wheat bran, tip I got off mealworms.com, wheat bran is cheap stuff at a feed store. But what I want to do is take the mealworms from there and move them to another bin to gut load them. I am wondering if anyone knows of an easy way to get a good number of mealworms out of the plain wheat bran and leave the bran behind.

Thanks for any help.
Bruce

A method that I use is to get some newspaper & rip it into 3"X3" squares. Then, I insert either carrots or collard greens (both are resilient to molding)-between two pieces of the paper. I then lay it on the surface of the bran. The next morning, a large percent of the mealworms will congregate in-between the paper to feed on the vegs. The other way is to find a strainer with a coarse weave (depending on the size of the bran) & manually shake it to obtain the mealworms left inside the strainer.
