Identical Three-Toeds?

threetoedOK May 24, 2003 07:05 PM

Hi, I noticed a photo of a three-toed box turtle in the World Chelonian Trust photo gallery that looks almost exactly like my three-toed box turtle found in northeastern Oklahoma. The colorings, head, nose, etc., are almost an identical match. The shell is only slightly different in markings on the outer scutes. Isn't it rare to see another turtle that looks so much alike?

Perhaps your turtle is from the same area..... individuals in local populations often resemble each other quite a bit, due to the natural inbreeding that happens over time.
