GREAT herping

asnakelovinbabe May 10, 2009 08:29 PM

Yesterday, was my 21st birthday, and we celebrated with dinner last night, and today, all day field herping. First stop was the area behind my work, which, Eddie apparently thought I was joking when I said I wanted to go there first. Now he knows why I usually skip eating on my lunch break to go back there! Next stop was peace valley where we found a good amount of snakes as well. Total sighting count was:

9 Northern Dekay's
11 Eastern Garter Snakes
2 Northern ringnecked snakes
1 Northern Water Snake
1 Great Blue Heron
1 Red Headed woodpecker
Countless frogs
Countless turtles
Countless freaking TICKS, probably over 30 on each of us, at one point I was bending over flipping a rock and I felt eddie poking the back of my thighs, I thought he was being a jerk but actually he had just pulled 7 ticks off that were crawling on my butt and legs!

Now here are some shots from our day!

these 3 were all under the same rock!

gravid and REALLY MEAN dekay

Behind my work looks like this

what the heck IS THIS???? it was about 2mm wide and really fluffy. Like a tiny bloody puffball.
