I hope you guys feel the same way. I would first like to say that I am just getting start with monitors and have been reading everything i can from you guys on this and other forums and I just want to say thank you. You all make everything make sense and it is apparent you care for you animals. I just wish everyone felt the same.
I was at a local reptile show this weekend with my family. My Father in-law (who for some reason think I know everything about reptiles) Starts talking to this mentally challeged kid and his dad about his new monitor. He calls me over and says they have some questions they want to know if it is healthy or not. "They shouldnt have bought it if they questioned it" was the first thing that ran through my mind. SO I go over just out of curiosity look in the bag and it is an adult blue tail. It look very skinny, but was hard to see in the dark pillow case he was in and i wasnt going in to pull it out. They then start talking to me and I find out that the kid just lost his other monitor so his dad gets him this one. They tell me that the guy who sold it to them said to feed it dog food and ground turkey that they are easy to care for.......I almost walk away but for the sake of that animal...I explained that they need to feeding on whole prey items such as adult mice and roaches or large crickets.....And that the cage needs to be huge that they love to climb and that temps need to be over 100 in thier basking areas.....not sure any of it sunk in...honestly i was very discusted with the vendor that sold this kid this lizard......It really pisses me off that some poeple are just out to make a buck....and that is defiantly not what our hobby needs right now....we need to be educting the public...not making crap up.....this is also the same show where i heard someone say a carpet only get 6'
Thanks for reading
