Tortoise Table Features

Christul May 24, 2003 07:15 PM

Vedui',

I'm going to be making a tortoise table for my Greek hatchlings (they're being bumped up from their current rubbermaid underbed container) and was wondering whether anyone had any ideas for extra, useful features that I could add on to the basic wooden box idea. So far I've decided to add a cleaning hatch on the side of the table so that I can change the substrate more easily and also a rack or something as a storage area. However, I'm having some troubles with deciding what to do with the uv heat bulb and their reptisun bulb. So any design ideas would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has any nice tortoise tables that they've made, I'd really appreciate it if you posted a pic. Thanks!

Almien,
Christina

Although they are hatchlings, they will grow. My indoor enclosure is 15" tall. This allowed me to put 2 triangle shaped pieces on 2 of the top corners. (like a partial lid) I drilled a hole into each to mount the light fixtures. Just remove the metal reflector (it screws on). Now the lights shine just at the right height without bulky clamps and they don't glare out into the room. sorry but no pictures.
When you include the shelf into the design, the area under the shelf becomes a hide spot for the torts. So design the size and shape and height of the shelf with that in mind.
