What are your plans........

rainbowsrus May 11, 2009 01:37 PM

A report on anther forum of a herpers recent motorcycle accident reminded me of a point we all need to think of......

None of us can see the future and you never know when an accident like that (or worse even) could happen.

What have YOU done to ensure the well being of your animals in the event you are unable to take care of them. Whether that be short term, long term, or ever again!!!

My personal plan includes involving two of my friends to care for the two halves of my collection including selling them off if I am unable to do so myself. My family could take care of them short term but I know this is my hobby, not theirs and as such is not something I would expect them to carry on.

Each of us has our own unique situation(s) and need to tailor a plan that fits. My point is, make your plan(s), be prepared, don't leave it up to chance!!

With any size collection, it is good to have a plan for the "just in case". I have already planned to have my S/O take my animals if anything were to happen to me. You got me thinking, though, that I should probably set up a secondary caretaker just in case my S/O can't for some reason.

Good post Dave!

i know where all my snakes are going, and my feeders for that matter, my dog is a different story, i have three friends in mind and all three i don't like. the rest can be delt with how ever, strange that's all i have been thinking about lately is the "what if" topic....scary.

Hey Tanya, IMO it's a very important part of planning to make sure your animals are taken care of. One that many people do not think of and even worse for us herpers as not just anyone can or would take them on.

I really need to update my plans. I used to keep a laminated note on my fridge and cards in my wallet & glove box with emergency critter contact info. That was in CA. I've been lax about such things, thanks for posting to remind me!

Now to figure out who will be the recipients of my zoo.....

Well, you know there's this responsible, rainbow boa/chondro loving guy named Ed who only lives a couple hours away...
