DINKER GENETICS QUESTION

CaliRepGuy May 11, 2009 05:49 PM

Hello, I am still looking for input on the possible genetics of this Ball. It is the offspring of a Black Pastel and a new normal. The breeder has only produced Black Pastels and this pattern from the parents two years in a row now. No normals, only one or the other! The BP's do not show the pattern. Could it still be genetic or do I have a cool looking non genetic Ball Python? The breeder of these is going to breed the offspring back to the parents this year to try and prove it out.

Thanx

Kevin

You won't know until you breed it. What harm would come from having a few extra ball pythons around? Worst case scenerio, you know you tried and you're keeping your eyes open for something new. Best case scenerio that labor pays off and you get a new project to play with! I would say, keep them and see what happens.

Good luck we have a few oddities in our group that are subtle like that, and its fun to wait and see what happens! It makes hatch dates really exciting!

Take care,
Jordan

It is amazing how similar yours and mine are. Here she is about a month ago next to my black back black pastel, from Mike Cole.

CaliRepGuy May 12, 2009 12:23 PM

Wow, I think they are identical twins! (:

She looks nice. Keep in touch and maybe we can do some projects. I am hoping to have DH Pied/This morph in 2010.

Good luck.

I also have a female from Leisen. She is amazing, I cant wait to see what she produces. She eats like a champ and if keeps going will breed for me next year. Is your black a male or female? This is her as a hatchling.

CaliRepGuy May 11, 2009 06:55 PM

Mine is also a female. I think she is the sib of yours from last year. She should go next year as well. I am going to breed my male pied to her. Good luck and keep in touch.

Im going to breed her to my Black pastel, also next year, I really want an 8 ball. Pied is an excellent choice. I would choose ghost as #2, even if the wait is long. Good Luck

I may do my DH for glow male to her in 2011. So maybe producing animals with this morph and: Glow, ghost, caramel, pied. I can only dream....

Thank you for the photos and info.

as you already know, the pattern is very nice and as you said so far each clutch has produced black pastels and the odd patterned hatchlings. first off, they are very attractive with the pattern. since each clutch so far has produced them i would say "they are genetic in pattern" and if nothing else they look really nice. prove me right or prove me wrong, its good either way.

keep us updated, have a great season,

Does the breeder have a web site?

agoldreptiles May 11, 2009 08:06 PM

Have you contacted Gary Liesen? I told you when you posted about this previously to contact him as he has some Blacks that are NOT producing normals. Only Blacks and these weird ones? Why not go to the source instead of making repeat posts?

Thanks
Anthony

I never posted before regarding these snakes.

CaliRepGuy May 12, 2009 12:50 PM

Hi,

Yes, that's where she is from and I have emailed him to inquire as to his thoughts on the genetics. I just wanted to get some more input due to the lack of response from my last post. This post has really paid off. I have received great input and photos.

I appreciate everyones's input and photos.

I also got one of these "Liesin line" black pastels and a friend of mine got a pair. His web site is SNAKEMANS SNAKE SHOP.Mines a female and shes slowed up eating for past few months. Shes a good two years out but Ive got plans to pick up a male by the time shes ready to breed. Some of the earlier ones he hatched out were really stunning. He got the original male "wild caught" if I remember correctly...anyway Ive got a chunk invested in this female so Im on board to try to get something from her...MARK SISCO
