My MTS cage. What do you think?

Flavia Guimaraes Sep 13, 2003 08:39 AM

It is 40" by 25".Its placed in a very sunny area where Leonardo can get all the sunlight he needs/want.It has several pothos plant, a huge branch and a hiding " box", a thermometer to never allow the temp to go higher than 26C, and 2 bowls of water, a large one for him to soak and a smaller one for him to drink.I dont need any artificial lights or heat.To warm the cage its enough to open the window!lol!
By the way you can see him sleeping on the higher pothos plant vase!

Hi Flavia,

In many respects, it is a nice set-up and pretty but if I stopped at that, I wouldn't do you justice as a friend or give you a true answer to your question.

You need more climbing areas (Branches, upper plateforms) and hide areas (Corkrounds, Artifical logs). Several sides of the enclosure have vertical bars-making it impossible to climb. Also, White is the worst color for bars on an enclosure. Psychologically, it has been proven to affect animals of various species and it is indeed ashame it is offered so frequently. Other than that, you did a beautiful job and the window for outdoor air access is to be commended.

Most Sincerely,
Brian

In fact the cage is gray.I think the white effect is caused by the sunlight!lol!
I put inside the cage one long hiding box, do you think he needs more than one?
Two of the pothos plant vases have trunks, he uses these trunks to climb.Do you think its enough?

Flavia,

I might suggest more branches, an upper hide, and wooden plateforms in the upper level for Leonardo to rest on and feel secure. You can use screws and washers to secure the sides of the board to your wiresided enclosure. Otherwise, your off to a great start. I like the arched top except again, the wires are oriented so Leonardo can't climb along the top.

Sincerely,

Maybe buy some artificial vines, and intertwine them along the roof. Leave some hanging down for a natural look. This way, Leonardo has access to climb in most of his cage. Also, you may be able tie bits of Pothos into the vines so he can try and find them. Just a thought
