Cinnies and Black Pastels

jaymiller242 May 11, 2009 11:42 PM

I hear about this duckbilling thing that happens with the Cinnies and Black Pastels but do you have any idea if I can reduce my chances of that happening and still produce Supers of one or both by breeding my Cinnies to my Blacks and visa versa instead of breeding Cinnies to Cinnies and Black Pastels to Blacks? Thanks

I won't talk about what not to do, but rather what I would/am doing with my breeding if I were considering a super. I feel Ian G. line Blacks are THE Black Pastel. I would breed Ian Black to Ian Black and I would Breed any line of Cinny to an Ian Black if I were going for a super to avoid the duckbill. I am sure you will get other valid opinions. Good luck!!!!

Thanks for that input Mr Bill.. No pun intended if you might be an old Saturday Night Live watcher like myself from the mid to late 70's.. Just a respectful Southern way of talking that I learned at an earlier age having spent several years in S. Georgia. Anyways that happens to be exactly the line I have. I bought them from Chris and Sheila at GCR and if I am not mistaken they were actually the first ones to get that line and passed it on to IanG. If I am wrong please correct me but if that seems to be a great line to breed then I will put my Black male with my Black female and both of my Cinnie females unless something else sounds more interesting at breeding time next year. One of my Cinnie females is at just over 1500 grams and I did put her with my Black male and a Pastel male but I am still watching he to see if she looks gravid. She may be since she has rounded up a bit and not eaten in about 2 or 3 months now. Guess I can keep my fingers crossed. Please let me know if you have some experience in the lineage that I mentioned so I dont go off in the wrong direction when I speak. Have a great week, Jay

OHHHH NOOOOOOO!!!!! I can't decide which I episode(s) I like best -- Judge Sluggo squashing him with the gavel in court or Officer Sluggo running over him after giving him a traffic ticket -- tire treads and all.lol LOVE MR.BILL!!!

I am sure this response will bring at least ONE poster to oppose my position. I also believe that a few will support my position. Ian's line is comes from a different imported animal -- different lineage. I think Ian did acquire one/some of GC's line, but did not end up working with them -- and sold them early after having never bred them. I do have one Gulf Coast 06 girl. She produced for me last season and I am breeding her again this. She has been a great snake for me!!!

They are dramatically different animals when you put hem side my side. Color, contrast, and PATTERN!!! I consider Ian's line as much a pattern morph as it is a color morph. GC Blacks do have a reputation of duck-billed supers. Supported in my mind by the fact you almost never see a super from their line. Every one I have seen has had the "funny face".

I am not sure crossing with a Cinny will eliminate the problem -- it may. I would hope that you will have access to other opinions. Mine is only ONE. Good luck.
