Milks from Kansas

terryd May 11, 2009 11:59 PM

This is my last chance to post a trip I took to Kansas at the end of April, as I'll be working out of town the next three weeks.

Here we go.
Saw a lot of these little slug/worm eaters, and always enjoy them too.

Moving up in size, we pissed off the local bad ass.

Many Speckled Kings were found while looking for Milks.

And I have to show a tantila because I like them so much.

Okay, let's move on to the Milks. (L. t. gentilis)

This is a pair that came out from under one rock.

Big female from above.

A few little neonates w/ nice looking black saddles to them.

I liked this dark red saddled guy.

Couple of goober shoots of me being beat up by an unhappy female. Gotta love the look on my face- God I'm a dork. But happy.

She was very big which is why we took the photos.

Here she is rising up to dive in for another bite.

A little weather slipped in one night.

But most days were like this.

Very nice gentilis I thought.

And another nice one.

Stubby tail, but getting better looking don't you think?

Better.

Better still?

BEST. Four milks under one rock. Yesss.
I know, you can only count three, but there were four. You'll have to believe me.

Here is the fourth. He wouldn't sit still w/ the other three.

Warm milks can be fast.

I liked this male best of all, for the red bar across his eyes.

I have to thank Greatfuldead, for a great time. Thanks Chad.

Now back to work I go, Hi Ho.

Eastern Kansas Syspila. I never seen one with so much black like this one. It looks like a Scarlet King but its pure Syspila.

Awesome post, Dell! Man you found a ton of nice milks. I especially like that giant female you found and love your expressions. Finding 4 under one rock must have been insane. Thanks for posting!

Really cool pics Dell.

Is there anyone that works with Tantillas? They're really neat little snakes, but I've only heard mention of them a few times and never seen them advertised.

Anyway, great post.

Bueno post, Dell! I just got back to town and had the chance to reply to this post. Too bad it took me so long to see this! Man, I wish I could have gone this year.
