When is the right time to ship?

novicekeeper May 12, 2009 06:06 PM

My female finally dropped her litter 2 nights ago, final count was 6 live, 5 stills, and 9 slugs. wasn't what I was hoping for but oh well, my female is ok and I think all 6 are going to make it. My question is, how long should I wait before they are old enough to ship out?

i am just getting into the boa breeding trials (in a couple years), so i dont know if boa breeders do anything different from retics, and i think its up to the breeder. with retics, i usually wait until they have shed twice and eaten at least 6 meals, many people sell them earlier, and do great. its more of just a little extra piece of mind for me. so i go at about 8 weeks or so.

I usually try to get a dozen or so meals in them before I offer them up for sale! Some people just crave the cash and will sell them right out of the first shed or sooner! I don't recommend that. Make sure your babies are established feeders first and then find good homes for them second!

Just what's worked for me last the eight years! I haven't had too many people complain!
