Ghosts the same genetic?

tropicalhut May 12, 2009 06:22 PM

This may have been covered before, but I missed it.
Does anyone know if the varied ghosts ( orange, butterscotch, Green ) are all compatible to produce ghosts when bred together?
and if so is it a random outcome?
Thanks, Mike

Butterscotch and NERD line (orange and yellow) are definitely compatable. Green ghost and a line that Graziani has are not compatible with any other line.

My understanding of the compatible lines of ghosts is that the outcome of the homozygous form would be a combination both.

Example: orange ghost X butterscotch ghost = orange/butterscotch ghosts

Hope that helps

Thanks, that does help. But leaves another question. I have a black pastel het.ghost from Ian g. stock. Does any one know what line of ghost he has?
Thanks again, Mike

pretty sure he has orange and butterscotch which are compatible. Most ghosts are.

Thanks, again for the information. I guess I'll know for sure when I get eggs to hatch.
Thanks, Mike

Not true. The color of the pigment of the snake is based on the color of the pigment of the snake. Hypomelanism is a reduction or elimination of black pigmentation. The darker an animal would have been with its natural pigment, the brighter the color is when in a hypo form. So if it would have been high brown it is high yellow hypo. If it would have had a bunch of black it would be orange. That is why the black pastel and cinnamon pastel are strong projects for hypos. And all of the established hypo/ghost lines are the same thing genetically and have been proven so for over a decade. Bell, BHB, NERD, etc, all the same. What Greg and some other people have that they are calling hypo______, those are not, but all the traditional green, yellow, orange, etc, are the same thing and 100% compatible.

Pictured are adult bell line ghosts/hypos that have bred for me for years. Also pictured are their babies from a couple years. The adults are green and yellow, the babies are bright orange.

I agree that most lines of hypos are compatible.

To say that my statement isnt true is inaccurate! There is a line of green ghost that is not compatible with Bell, NERD etc... I know this because a close friend is now working with double hets due to the incompatibilty of the green ghost.

Lets examine what you said then:

"Butterscotch and NERD line (orange and yellow) are definitely compatable. Green ghost and a line that Graziani has are not compatible with any other line.

My understanding of the compatible lines of ghosts is that the outcome of the homozygous form would be a combination both.

Example: orange ghost X butterscotch ghost = orange/butterscotch ghosts

Your first paragraph agrees with what I said and as I said, Gregs hypo whateverhecallsit is not the same as the standard defined hypo and does not fit the discussion.

Next, prove there is a traditional form of hypo that is not compatible. I have posted proof repeatedly about breeding my BHB, Bell and African hypos to each other and producing hypos. I can document my production, as I have with detailed photos.

Next your theory on the color outcome...untrue, not factual. I have prooved your quote not to be true a dozen times as have dozens of other people. What you posted was untrue. Why not just admit it and witrhdraw instead of sending me emails full of insults for prooving you to be wrong and fabricating information on here??? The fact that you do not have a grasp on genetics and pigmentation is not a reason to attack me for correcting you so that you would not in turn be misinforming the people who asked in the first place.

Have you ever produced hypo ball pythons?

pitoon May 13, 2009 05:36 AM

evansnakes........lessers and butters are the same morph!

amcroyals May 13, 2009 10:25 AM

agreed Pitoon! And yes evansnakes I have and am producing hypos from NERD and the Butterscotch lines and have for many years!

Sounds to me as if there are three independent mutant genes in this discussion:

1. ghost = BHB, African, Bell, orange, butterscotch, etc. lines.

2. green ghost

3. whatever Graziani calls his line. I hope it is a unique name.

Well since Nerd's line of Green Ghost is compatible with the orange and the butterscotch -- I might suggest your friend find another name to call his line of green ghost to avoid further confusion.

Graziani does have a G1 line of hypo that is not compatible with the standard hypo lines. I believe the Blue line is compatible but I'm not positive on that.

The citrus line from GCR was proven compatible.

Never did say NERD line green ghost. The ghost was bought as "green ghost" and wasn't named by him. I know that he isnt the only one working with this "green ghost" line. I was merely informing tropicalhut of my experience and the issues I have come across that's all.

OMG you guys wear me out everytime you start these discussions(arguments). Instead of trying to show everyone you know everything about everything put your time into something really constructive like breeding the absolutely most beautiful animals you can. You sound like people I have run across before, you know the old story line on it I am sure.. You say the sky is Blue and they are gonna swear its white or green or Yadda Yadda Yadda. I do know one thing for sure. There is nothing more irritating to the ones that DO know everything than the ones that think they do.
