Thermostat recommendations?

rdm01 May 13, 2009 09:33 AM

Hi gang!

I'm wondering what are your opinions on the different thermostats out on the market.
I'm not super cheap when it comes to my snake so I wouldnt mind something thats guaranteed to work.
I had a helix at one point but found it bulky and the probe was rediculously large.

Also, is it possible to buy in store somewhere or is it just sold online.

Thanks to all for your usual great advice!

Ive got 12 Helix and 5 Ranco and 2 Big Apple (herp power).. I love the Helix It maintains a constant heat at set temp. Resuems setting when power goes out or I unplug. Helix is the only thing that I would ever trust on my incubators. Helix also warns if prob is out of place.
Now for smaller applications I dont know I guess I would still use a Helix.....MARK SISCO

Spyder Robotics is what I would recommend. They are not any more expensive than the others but they are not cheap. They also have a few to choose from. Also the Johnson is a good one too and much cheaper than the spyder robotics, although I own both the spyder is the one for me now. Spyder Robotics also has unbelievable customer service. They will back their product big time.

Good Luck,
Bill

One other thing,

I don't think for you this it would matter but for incubation it is really nice. The Helix I believe still only gives you the temp value in the following degrees read out. IE: If you want 89 degrees you will see on the digital read out either 87, 90 or 89. The spyder robotics has the digital read out in tenths too. IE: If you want 89 degrees the digital read out will read 89.0 or 88.5 or 89.2, it will hold its value within like .5 degrees perfectly. It is really nice. I heard that helix is going to have that read out too but I am honestly not sure if it is out yet because I do not use them. That is why I went with the Spyder Robotics and it is awesome.

Regards,
Bill

We have been using the Johnson Control units for a number of years, and I am a big fan. They are professional grade thermos, and quite affordable.

Available here on the classifieds.
