Finally!

Rosebuds May 13, 2009 09:39 AM

The first WT female to start laying early last week FINALLY pushed out that last egg! It is definitely BAD and she looks exhausted but relieved! So I have a question. I am wondering if any of these eggs from either girl are fertile. Some of the eggs still look good in the incubator, but are infertiles harder on collareds?

Now if the other little girl could just finish!

I had purchased a lizard book when I was researching a suitable lizard to purchase. It covered most of the lizards available in the retail market and the author's were people who had been breeding many different types of lizards with additional vet degrees. It was stated that collared lizard eggs are notoriously hard hatchers when it comes to egg clutches in captivity. Now I must remind you this was their opinion based on their experiences and the experiences of those they knew.

LOL!

I have heard that and had people tell me that they never could get eggs to hatch. I just hope that we new people have the benefit of getting advice from people who have actually succeeded!

Little wt girl #1 is bouncy and eating! The other still looks miserable. Cross your fingers that she dumps those eggs today!

I've had the odd one or two collapse or go mouldy for no apparent reason, and they do have a habit of laying duds later in the year I think prolly as a result of sperm retention, but I've never ever had a problem with eggs hatching once they have hardened up.

I discovered a while back too that athlete's foot powder works on mouldy eggs without a problem, spray on plasters work on damaged eggs without harm also, and others have since tried the same without a problem!

Good girl Kelly, I think I told you that years ago about the athletes foot powder. In any case, yes your right, the powder is the best thing to use if you see any mold to try and stop it.
But if the egg is JUST bad, then it will evenually begin to smell.

I have no idea, it's been such a long time! But Yea, you probably did!!!!

In another forum I posted the advice received, and since a lot of Brits are using the same treatment, its amazing how fast word spreads (and mould!!)

The spray-on plaster trick works for weaker eggs too, though I dont know if I'd use it on eggs that had some growing to do incase it split them!
