Clay pot and mold

rdm01 May 13, 2009 10:07 AM

Hey gang,

Just curious if clay pots are good to use as hide boxes for ball pythons.

They retain water and heat very well and therefore give off the perfect amount of humidity for a few days until they dry out.

Will this cause mold or some type of bacterial problem? I clean them out often and disinfect them using bleach/water/soap solution and then throw em in the oven to dry fully before mysting them again for the cage.

Thanks!

I've used the plate not the pot but yes they work great and are cheap enough that you can throw them away if they get really bad..

I have used them for years with just rinsing with hot water when dirty. Only once have I seen mold and it was in a VERY humid set up.
