She is eggs bound. For now.

If it just laid last night leave it alone. Don't try and palpite. Try not to disturb her. It may take a while for her to pass. They usually do in less than a month.

Yes it does happen. I have had other strange things happen with breeding gentic stuff that was not supposed to come out. One time I bred a het whiteside to another Florida king that was definetly not het for WS and a whitesided came out.

Ever heard the line from Jurassic Park... "they will find a way to survive"

Not everything fits into a neat little rubbermaid box.

What was funny is I have pics of them breeding.I thought I had a nice pair but maybe not.If they are both females I will have to pick up a male then for next year.

That is a female and you need to take her to a vet. Period.

When eggs are stuck at the VENT, that can cause a quick death. Eggs stuck high in the body are normally not a problem. And yes, they can do magic things with stuck ovum. But once the ovum enlarges like yours has, it becomes very problematic.

Also, its more about the size of the stuck object. Those are LARGE obstructions. Again if the prevent the use of her kidneys, she is DEAD.

ALso, females do without question attempt to mock a male when there are no males around. If you had a real male, and put it in there, the acting male(actually a female) would simply move off and let the male copulate with the cycling female. I have not only seen this many times, but I have tested it.

ALso, kingsnakes can produce fertile eggs that hatch without a male. This part does follow the Jarrasic park saying. Its been published and I beleive they have not one, but two different types of parthogenetic reproductive abilities. One being dipliod the other being triploid. Its in the dang paper. I can't remembe the authors name, he was at ASU west, when he wrote the paper. Cheers

..If Frank says the eggs are too low then you should take it to a vet.

Most of my eggbound snakes don't get the eggs stuck low in the vent. So ignore what i said.

Please tell me that that hide on dry aspen is not where you are expecting her to lay?!?!?!

If so that is your problem. I know you were surprised by this "female" but you need to get her into an appropriate laying container ASAP. If she stays like that for a week I would get her to a vet. There are a lot of things that can be done. In the mean time just leave her alone.

Female snakes will cycle and lay eggs without a male. They will not be fertile. Rare parthenogenesis has happened but I wouldnt count on it.

bowhunter1963 May 13, 2009 09:53 PM

That was supposed to be my male.It suprised the hell out of me when I seen the eggs as it had mated with my female. It laid five eggs inside the hide when I found them. Thanks
