A Bittersweet Week of Life & Death

ToniaD Sep 13, 2003 10:16 AM

Bitter--This past Monday, I was devastated to learn that my beloved dragon with a 'tude, Miss B*tchy, passed away while @ the vet's. Long story short, she apparently died from a retained egg that leaked into her abdomen; she had laid her first fertile clutch in July. She was the first dragon I'd ever bred.

Sweet--On 9-11, Miss B*tchy's eggs started hatching! Three hatched that evening, 7 hatched yesterday, & the remaining 5 hatched this morning! They all appear to be healthy & active, & most seem to have their mother's 'tude--hissing @ me when I get too close! One of them seems to have her attitude even more than the others--it literally jumps @ my finger, trying to bite it! LOL!

Here's a pic of the first-hatched, which also happens to be the runt. I've posted a Breeding Diary on my site, & will soon be posting pics of all the hatchlings. Looks like reptilefood.com will be having a spike in their sales for the next several weeks! LOL!

Well, you know my heart aches for you (and Miss B*tchy). For those who don't know, Tonia and her hubby drove 5 hrs (one way) to St. Louis to get Miss B from me. She was Cecil's sister.

And Tonia, I know you went over and above the call of duty to save her, driving 70 miles to a good herp vet may be more then most would do, let alone the $$ involved in allowing the vet to take every measure possible to save her *sniff*.
You were a superb Mommy to Miss B and I always felt secure in knowing that she was well cared for.

I hope having those babies takes away a small part of the loss.
The fact that they are all hissing at you is a hoot!
Such an endearing Miss B quality...lol

You're so awesome with your dragons......Miss B was lucky twice over....first to have Christy as a mom and then you....her life couldn't have been any better and now a part of her lives on in those fiesty babes.

Take care
Tracey
