N. Pine lays eggs 23 days after mating

jimburke27 May 13, 2009 04:15 PM

Hello. I bred my Northern Pines together on April 19th, and just yesterday, my Female Northern just laid 10 eggs. All eggs are between 2-3" long and are very white. They are also plump and have just the right amount of flexibility to them (at least in comparison to Corn Snake eggs). So far, these eggs look healthy. But I am concerned about such a very short gestation period.

1) Could these eggs just be blanks that were already developing when I mated my Northern Pines?

2) What is the chance that some or all of these eggs will hatch?

My Female Northern did lay a clutch of blanks last year, but all of those were obviously bad from the start (most were already yellow, all were very hard).

If anyone knows has any answers to my questions, please post a reply to my message.

Thank you.

Well I am sure people will suggest candling them to see if you see any veins. The thing is if you do not see any will you just throw them in the trash?

I wouldn't........I never do unless it is completely obvious they're infertile.

I keep all eggs and have seen snakes come out of some eggs people would swear were rotten. I'd set them up and cross your fingers. Stranger things have happened...I hope they hatch

I agree with Tom, when in doubt wait it out in regards to ANY eggs. I had a rat snake come out of a black egg with multiple cracks in the shell, I was like how many have I thrown out thinking I know what I am doing...
