Prolapse

Rosebuds May 15, 2009 09:37 AM

Well, my little wt female finally laid what started ut as an egg, but is now a hideous THING. She passed it overnight, and passed most of her lower intestines with it. Both reptile vets are out until Monday or I would have taken her in yesterday. So I soaked her in weak betadine, sterilized a pair of forceps, and finally managed to stuff it all back into her. I doubt that she will survive this, but at least maybe she is more comfortable.

The other wt fem is empty of eggs and very bouncy again.

Sorry to hear this Donna, as I have said in private converstions it is not always FUN, sometimes breeding has sad/bad outcome for these little girls. They go through ALOT !

Anyway I had a male chuck with a very bad prolaspe and managed to help him a while back and it never happened again. Now with her she may have needed to have it tacked down inside by a vet .

But if it happens again and comes out or as far as any of your other girls/ lizards if it happens before you can get to a vet, , get them asap in a coolish sugar water soak hold them in there for about 30 minutes ( I know that sounds like a long time) but it worked and just watch tv or something. Next after carefully dab drying, take regular KY jelly and SMEAR all over prolaspe and vent area. Put them on a towel in tank ( NO SAND, STONES nothing but a CLEAN towel.) Continue squirting KY jelly on the area every few hours. By next day my guys prolaspe went in.

ALSO- with these girls , you can give them a few drops of mineral oil or type oil orally that you normally use for constipation. It helps lubracate them while straining.

I hope she will be okay. I woul think you woudl have to watch for infection. Just make sure she is not on a subtrate of any kind incase it comes out again. NEED sterile type place for her right now.

I did soak her, but it was in very weak, cool betadine. I will go with the sugar water next. I also need to get the KY, and I do have her on a very good antibiotic used for intestinal problems. I started that last night because I just sensed that she had an infection.

Sorry to hear about the prolaspe. I have a male that has his hemipenis prolasped but is otherwise healthy. This went on for a few years and most of it dried up and fell off. I haven't got any fertile eggs from his matings.

She has been straining so long that this must have happened because of that. I wish there was a way to never let her get gravid again, but simply not letting her breed won't do it, will it? So would breeding her be better?

Anyway, she is hanging in there and even passed a little urates. She is kinda belly dancing. I hope she is just getting everything back in place! I just hope she doesn't start straining again. If she makes it to this evening, I will administer fluids with just a little bit of soy yogurt.

I lost the little wt female over night. I really didn't think she could have survived that trauma. But it looked like she passed very quietly without struggle, so hopefully she had a peaceful end.

Now I am worried about he other. She looks like she can't possibly still be carrying eggs, and she is active and eating some, but last night I saw her straining again! If this continues, then we will be seeing the vet on Monday. I just wonder if they BOTH have some kind of infection!

I am really worried about a bacterial infection here.

Such a shame, I hope your eggs hatch out so you have something to remember her by, as you say at least she went in the night and painlessly. I'd get the other one to the vet to check for infection also, but all the best, I'm sorry for your loss x
