Basic breeding question

CaliRepGuy May 15, 2009 11:35 AM

I have bred many colubrids, rosies, short tailed pythons, savu pythons and a few others, but never Balls. I know, weird huh. How did I never get around to breeding them I do not know.

This will be my first year with adult breeder size balls. I am pretty sure I can handle all the aspects of it (I've read the books) but I need to know approx what part of the year I should expect my females to be ready? I am in San Luis Obispo on the California coast right between LA and Frisco.

Thank you for the help.

Kevin

you can pair year around...if you start now you may have eggs later this year.
I start to pair up in September. I have had one female lay so far (4/1) and a few to go anytime and some 30 days out and more when they get to it.. I live in oregon

Like stated before, they can be bred all year long.Female will let you know if she is ready or not.Best of luck and try feeding her throughout until she refuses to eat which is usually a good sign.

as the others mentioned you can breed year round. however you are just giving them some play time unless the female has her folicles up to size.

the norm seems to be early fall to april/may time frame

you'll have better chances of lock ups before or while it rains. so if you plan to breed year round i would keep an eye out for the weather
