Anxious......
Kinda like a kid on Christmas Eve Night....

I am looking into getting...rubbermaid tubs or gladware tubs...
What so some of you use instead of the expensive premade racks?
Pics would be awesome

BTW Marys laying today..but not sure if any are good...we will see only one dud was out before I left for work.

I use Melamine boards separated with 5/8" allthread...fully adjustable for any size rubbermaid(or the like) tub.....

The shelving system on the right will hold (4ea) shoebox size tub per shelf or (3ea) 16 quart tubs per shelf or (1ea) large tub per shelf.....You can easily house 24 hatchlings and it cost me under 100 bucks to build.....

Congratulations!

He was a busy boy...Any idea on the scale count on the second female? She's got a nice long head and some silver-gray highlights on her lower sides...

I have an 2003 male that is similar with a VSC of 188...

Later,
Jim.

Sorry, I should have listed some references...See Bob Hansen's wonderful resource list of papers to download these and a few others at Sierra Herps...

"Systematics of the Mexicana Species Group of the Colubrid Genus Lampropeltis with Hypothesis Mimicry" by William R. Gartska, Breviora No.466, June 30, 1982

"A New Snake of the Genus Lampropeltis" by Arthur Loveridge, Boston Society of Natural History (Occasional Papers), Vol.5, p.137-139, December 29, 1924

"Additional Observations on Variation and Distribution of Gray-Banded Kingsnake, Lampropeltis Mexicana" by Frederick R. Gelbach & Clarence J. McCoy, Jr., Herpetologica, Vol.21, No.1, 1965

Count the ventral scales of a shed skin or scan the entire ventral portion of the specimen and then count the scales...

Thayeri & Mexicana sort of overlap a bit...Thayeri = 196-197 to about 211-212 plus or minus a scale or two...MSP's tend to be on the higher end of the scale count (generally speaking). At the high end of the scale counts, some Thayeri (usually MSP but some Leonis) overlap into the lower end of ruthveni according to literature available...

I'm still learning this stuff myself & I hope this helps...

Later,
Jim.
