Anery or Hypo-E???

jlassiter May 17, 2009 01:10 AM

Got this female a couple weeks ago. Offspring of a Louis Torres adult pair.
This is supposedly one of only two anery Thayeri in the United States.
My opinion is that she is Hypo-Erythristic rather than Anerythristic (According to my take on the definition of each).
What do you guys think?

Salmon and copper metallic colors, but no red.
The unique thing is...She has little in common with her siblings.

Nice snake John but I don't see where either label fits. Looks like a nice washed out buckskin thayeri to me.

I tend to agree. It's a bit washed out but I've seen some faded out thayeri before.
With the variability of thayeri, it's a tough call since they really don't have to have all the colors in the same snake, do they?

...also we would not call a more leonis looking animal with hints of faded color in or along its bands "hypo-" or "hyper-" would we??

No, but there are some thayeri with no black at all on them in the area where the black should be and we do not call them Amelanistic or hypo melanistic since the black is not replaced by the absence of color (white).

The only thing I see in person that is different on my female thayeri is this....In the area where red is supposed to be presence there is color, but the color is reduced to a salmon and copper metallic colors.....this may be just a color mutation and not a recessive or dominant trait....

It may be just a washed buckskin thayeri....but I think it would be cool to see a Hypo-E MSP Thayeri....

You are right Mark...They don't have to have all the colors in the same snake....

We'll see....I would love to see a Milksnake Phase Hypo-E Thayeri....It will take another generation if there is a recessive gene in there....but if not She should throw some nice offspring regardless due to her genetics.....

Of course Mark....
As is all mexicana...
Even if there is no 'hypo-e' gene she should produce some nice ones...
Thanks,

I agree with Russ, I don't see Anery or Hypo.. It looks like a faded Thayeri to me.

I don't usually comment on peoples 'kids and snakes' pics, but that is a nice shot. Could have it cut closer and framed. Cool!

Thank you....

I guess the only way to 'prove it out' is to produce a Milksnake Phase that has reduced red pigment (salmon bands)....

It will take another couple generations to do....And if it does not prove out....I don't think it will be a waste of time since she does have some awesome genes.....
