What is too hot?

What is too hot for a ball python?

My thermostat seems to be lunatic and I'm using the heat mat on its own for now, and i'm quite concerned since sometimes when i use the temp gun the temperature is around 96F in the hot spot, is that dangerous?

yes it could be dangerous and if it dont kill the animal it can still cause nurological effects head tilting inabiity to right itself etc. i keep ambiant temps at 87dagrees with a hot spot around 90 and this has worked perfectley for the past 23 yrs. also no less than 60% humidity i like mine to be between 70 and 90 hope this helps regards

if it has a place to go cooler fine ...96 heat pad? might not be 96 IN the cage or the actual floor temp

BUT...IF you have a choice....rather than fry the snake...cold is better than hot.....

....IF the whole cage is too hot....turn off heater....till you get new thermostat....don't feed while cold....

.......I have had my tapes set at 96....but the cage flor is actually alot cooler and all the cages are different...I run 4 tubs to a tape....and 4 tapes to a thermostat....
