question about females breeding...

ARIES54 May 17, 2009 05:41 PM

Ok. Can a female that's any where from 325g to 425g breed and lay eggs without any issues? I keep getting told several different things. Reason I ask, is I just purchased two girls that are probably both gravid (the one is starting to look like it too) but the one is 329g and the other is around 406g. I keep getting told by people that they are going to get egg bound and die. And then I ask some one else, and get told they'll be fine. I've read several books about it, but none of them say anything about weight. And I've googled the heck out of this topic and still cant get a straight conclusive answer. Whatcha guys and gals think? Tell me what's happened in your experiance please.
Thanks.

Oh, and I have no idea why I cant get these old pics of some of my old ball pythons off of here....sorry.

I've had dragons lay both fertile and infertile at 250ish grams with no problems. Just be sure to keep them hydrated before and after.

Bearded dragons can lay eggs at those weights fine, if they are healthy and have proper husbandry. Weight is important but so is overall size and health of the dragon.

A 14" head to tail tip dragon weighing 400g much different than say a 20" dragon weighing only 350g.

Offer them plenty of healthy food, extra calcium supplements (ie dust insects with calcium without phosphorus) and create a good egg laying bin.
