Whats the differance between....

Whats the differance between a black racer and a black rat snake?.. My friend caught a 6 foot long black snake about 3 weeks ago in Connecticut. It was 6 feet long, all black top, and on the bottom it was white with black blotches. It was found crossing the road after a big storm. Is it a black rat snake or a black racer?

6 feet long would be near-record size for a racer, while 6 foot black rats are not unusual. The racer would be plain black above and below, with some white on the chin. The black rat may be uniform black or with some traces of spotted pattern on the back, throat would be light, and the light color may extend down farther somewhat irregularly or spotted as you say. Sounds like a black rat to me. Did you let it go? Duffy

No, my we didnt let it go, its a great pet, very tame, and eats very well. It's eaten 3 rats in the three weeks we've had him.

Now this is just my opinion..BUT....If it was a black racer it would be spawn from hell. The tame wild racer is about as common as a non-venomous rattle snake....lol
Mean, nasty, hyper, evil creatures.
but like I said, that is just my opinion.....lol
