Murphy must have had the day off. . . P I C

DonSoderberg Sep 13, 2003 01:42 PM

Got lucky yesterday. While I was looking for some snakes for an order yesterday, I saw movement in a box of eggs (second clutch) that I thought had nothing but dead ones in it. Many of my second cluthes around here are good for nothing but fertilizer and fly food. As rich calls them "fungus farms".

This clutch was from two triple het. butter X striped corns. One egg survived and this was in it. A plump male with an almost perfect stripe. I hope Murphy has the day off again when it's time for it to feed for me.

LOL, one in a 64 chance and you manage to get that form one egg.. That's like winning the lottery Good stuff Don.

Did you hatch Bloodred Motley this year? I am so anxious to hear about that.

. . . at least I'm not sure if I did. I have none that have connected dorsal markings, but as you know that's not a prerequisite for motleys. The bellies are classic bloodred so I'm not sure. These came from hets so I can't be sure and they all look alike.

Either Vin Russo or Richard Hume or both got more of the striped bloodreds this year. I'd be interested to see belly shots of those since I think without breeding trials, the belly is the only way to immediately identify the combo recessive of bloodred and motley or striped. I'm still not sure if it'll be possible to distinguish between a bloodred and a bloodred motley if the motley part of the equation doesn't have connected dorsal markings. As we all know, there are lots of non motleys out there with connected dorsal markings. Just another reason to love and hate this genetic business.

If the belly is Bloodred and the connected pattern in on top.. hmmm, I would think so.. Do you have pics? I would love to see them.
